Are you smarter than a 4th grader?

My son, Nolan, just received a “Green Machine” for his birthday from his Uncle.  Remember the “Green Machine”?  It looks a lot different these days.  He was so determined to assemble his new ride.  With winter here, I seriously had no intention of assembling it until spring (plus I really stink with assembly instructions).  Nolan begged me to put it together saying he would do it all by himself.  He said if he didn’t understand the instructions, he would re-read them.  So I finally said go for it!  As I worked on my computer at the kitchen table, he went in and out of the garage for tools.  After about 45 minutes, I finally asked him how it was going and his reply was that it was almost finished.  I could not even believe it.  I texted my brother (the giver of this gift) who had just assembled a green machine for my niece for Christmas.  He said it took him 3 hours and a lot of frustration.  Amazing what my son’s determination can produce, and he definitely has a knack for working with his hands .  Sometimes his determination drives us crazy as parents, but I am hoping it will serve him well in life.  Maybe I can learn a little about determination in my life from Nolan and the “Green Machine”…
